Orange County DUI Accident Kills Teenager

A teenager who was killed in an Orange car accident the morning of January 3, 2010, has been identified by authorities as 18-year-old Corbin White. The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and MacArthur Boulevard in Santa Ana, near John Wayne Airport, after the Toyota Scion in which White was a passenger was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver.

Police say 36-year-old Robert Charles Serrano, who had just left a bar, crashed his BMW into the Scion. The impact of the collision sent the Scion into the intersection causing it to crash into two more vehicles. Serrano initially tried to escape on foot, but police caught up with him and arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, felony drunk driving and gross vehicular manslaughter. White was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries and died the next day.

My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Corbin White. I offer my deepest sympathies, especially to her family members, for their devastating loss. This grieving family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Alcohol-Related Car Accidents

There were seven deaths and 175 injuries involving DUI accidents in Santa Ana, according to California Highway Patrol's 2007 traffic accident statistics. In Orange County, 75 people died and 1,501 people were injured as a result of DUI car accidents in 2007.

Based on this news report, it appears that Serrano ran away from the scene of the crash and was later arrested at a relative's house close by. Apparently, he was also drinking in a bar right before he got behind the wheel and crashed. If this driver is found to be responsible for the crash and the resulting fatality then, I truly hope he will be punished to the fullest extent, civilly and criminally, for his actions.

Claim for Compensation

White's family and other injured victims of this car crash would be well-advised to consult an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer who will hold the negligent parties accountable. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased accident victims may file a wrongful death claim, seeking damages for medical/funeral expenses, loss of earnings, loss of love and companionship and related damages
