Los Angeles Fatal Accident Kills Woman on Freeway

Officials have identified a woman who was fatally injured in a Los Angeles car accident on the 60 Freeway early morning on January 25, 2010, as 26-year-old Blanca Aguirre. The Associated Press reports that the fatal freeway accident occurred on the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar when Aguirre stopped on the shoulder of the freeway and got out to talk to her passenger. CHP officials said the Aguirre was struck by a large truck as she walked back to the driver's side of her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to everyone who knew and loved Blanca Aguirre. My heart goes out to them for their sudden and tragic loss. They will be in my prayers.

Car Accidents

There were eight injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Diamond Bar, according to CHP's 2007 traffic accident statistics. Countywide, 210 fatalities and 5,095 injuries were reported as a result of pedestrian accidents during the same year. Also, in Los Angeles County, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries occurred due to traffic accidents in 2007.

Car Accident Causes

It's not clear why Aguirre stepped outside her car and exactly where she was parked on the freeway. It appears from the news article that she may have parked on the shoulder. If that was true, it is not clear why the big rig struck her. The truck driver should have seen her. The question arises whether the big rig driver was impaired, speeding, fatigued or whether he swerved away from traffic lanes and struck Aguirre.

Claim for Compensation

In such cases, it would be in the best interest of the victim's family to contact a reputed Los Angeles personal injury attorney who has successfully represented injured victims and their families against trucking firms. If the truck driver in this case is found at-fault for this accident, then both he and his employer, the trucking firm, could be held responsible for the accident and resulting fatality.
