A woman who was killed in a suspected DUI collision in Whittier the night of January 10, 2011, has been identified as 67-year-old Deisi Alaez. The Whittier Daily News reports that the fatal drunk driving accident occurred at the intersection of Lambert Road and Gunn Avenue when Alaez's vehicle collided with another car driven by 20-year-old Brandon Dominguez. Alaez died from her injuries while Dominguez remains hospitalized in critical condition. He is, however, facing felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
I offer my heartfelt sympathies to everyone who knew and loved Deisi Alaez for their tremendous loss. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.

Laws and Liability Issues
Based on this news report, police say the young driver was under the influence at the time of the accident. It is illegal for any person under the age of 21 to consume alcohol and drive under California Vehicle Code Section 23136. According to California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a): "It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle." A driver whose act of driving under the influence results in the death of another will likely face vehicular manslaughter charges under California Penal Code Section 191.5 (a).
In such cases, it would be in the best interests of the deceased victim's family to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights are protected. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, the family of a deceased car accident victim can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical and funeral expenses, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages.
