A car accident in Los Angeles killed one and injured several others after a suspected drunk driver triggered a chain reaction crash in La Puente the night of July 13, 2010. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the deadly accident happened close to Stimson and Central avenues, when a driver traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and initiated the collisions. The driver of the first vehicle struck was pronounced dead and three others in the car sustained moderate to serious injuries. An investigation is ongoing. But police suspect the involvement of alcohol or drugs in this crash.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 11 injuries involving DUI collisions in La Puente. In Los Angeles County, 258 people died and 4,832 were injured as a result of alcohol-related crashes during the same year.
