A 57-year-old man who was killed in a Los Angeles car accident, has been identified as Keun Park of Fullerton. The Orange County Register reports that Park sustained critical injuries in a November 13, 2009 car accident in Santa Fe Springs while driving on the southbound 5 Freeway. The incident apparently occurred when Park, for an unknown reason, veered left on the freeway. His Honda Accord crashed into the metal divider and bounced back on to the freeway where it was first struck by a 2008 GMC Yukon and then by an Acura Integra. Park was transported to a hospital where he died last week.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Keun Park for their heartbreaking loss. I offer my deepest condolences to them. This grieving family will be in my prayers.
Car Accidents in Los Angeles
CHP's 2007 traffic accident statistics show that car accidents claimed five lives and caused 381 injuries in Santa Fe Springs. During the same year, 718 people died and 56,475 people were injured in car accidents countywide.
This news article does not state how or why Park lost control of his Honda. We do not know, based on this news report whether Park was driving under the influence, fatigued or if he suffered a medical condition while driving. It is possible that there was a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction that caused Park to lose control. If I were a member of his family, I'd also want to know if Park veered left to avoid roadway debris or because he was cut off by another driver.
