A teenager sustained injuries in a pedestrian accident after a car hit him in Valley Center, in the San Diego area. The North County Times reports that the injury collision occurred near the intersection of Cole Grade and Horse Creek roads on April 10, 2010. The victim was taken to an area medical center for treatment. California Highway Patrol officials believe that the young man may have suffered a broken leg.

It appears that the boy thankfully, did not suffer any catastrophic injuries although they were serious injuries. I wish this victim well and hope he recovers quickly from his injuries.

California Pedestrian Law

Under California Vehicle Code section 21950, the driver of a vehicle is required to yield right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the street within any marked or unmarked crosswalk or at an intersection. Driver are required by law to slow down as they approach crosswalks and/or intersections and exercise due care to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing the street. Pedestrians also have a responsibility under the law to yield right-of-way to oncoming vehicles. Violations such as jaywalking are also punishable under California law.
