A rollover accident in Riverside resulted in fatal injuries for two, The Press Enterprise reports. California Highway Patrol officials say the crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway near Coachella, when the driver of an SUV lost control and crashed. One person was ejected from the SUV, which officials say, rolled over at least 15 times. Two of the vehicle's occupants were critically injured and two others suffered minor injuries. An investigation is ongoing.
I sympathize with these critically injured victims and their families for what they are going through at this time. I wish them the very best for a swift and full recovery.
Rollover Accidents
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there are about 40,000 fatal car accidents in the United States each year. About 25 percent or 10,000 of those fatal traffic accidents involve rollovers.
Causes and Liability Issues
It is not entirely clear from this news report how or why this accident occurred. Did the driver lose control because of an auto product defect or design defect? The article states that everyone was buckled up. Why were the two vehicle occupants ejected? Was there a seat restraint system failure that caused them to be ejected?
If the accident was caused by a defective auto, then the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable for personal injuries or wrongful deaths caused. Injured victims could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Victims or their families in such cases would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer who will provide more information about how they can pursue their legal rights.
