A senior citizen was the victim of a fatal San Diego car accident apparently caused by a driver who lost control of his vehicle. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the victim was outside his home trying to get into his pickup truck when a Honda Accord drifted across the road and struck him, the afternoon of December 23, 2009. The driver of the Accord struck another vehicle down the road before the car came to a complete stop. The elderly man who was hit sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He had suffered major blunt force injuries. Authorities have made a preliminary determination that alcohol was not a factor. An investigation is ongoing.
My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved this man. I offer my deepest sympathies to this victim's family and friends for their devastating loss. They will be in my prayers.

Car Accident Causes and Liability Issues
If the details of this news report are accurate, it appears that the driver of Honda Accord completely lost control of the vehicle. The question is how and why that occurred. Officials do not believe the driver was under the influence. But we do not know whether this driver fell asleep at the wheel or suffered a medical condition. There is also no information about how fast the driver was going or whether there was a mechanical problem with the Honda.
It may be in the best interest of the victim's family to seek the counsel of a reputed San Diego personal injury lawyer, who will be able to determine whether the driver's negligence caused this tragic death.

I would be interesting in knowing if cell phones, texting, or anything or that nature was involved. We're seeing more and more technological distraction causing serious problems on the road way.
At any rate, this is truly regrettable for the family involved.
