A motorcyclist who sustained major injuries in a San Francisco car accident has been identified as 53-year-old David Roberts. The crash also injured 53-year-old Jacqueline Roberts, who was a passenger on the motorcycle. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that the accident occurred the afternoon of March 14 on Adobe Road in East Petaluma. Officials say David Roberts, who was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson was attempting to pass a Honda Accord whose driver, 58-year-old Nancy Legg was trying to make a left turn into a driveway. That was when the collision occurred. Both David and Jacqueline Roberts were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
I wish David and Jacqueline Roberts the very best for a speedy and complete recovery from their injuries. Please keep them in your prayers.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
There were no fatalities but 18 injuries were reported in Petaluma as a result of motorcycle accidents, according to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Sonoma County as a whole, motorcycle accidents claimed six lives and injured 166 people during the same year.
What Caused this Accident?
This news report does not state precisely how or why this accident occurred. In such cases it is important to look into who caused the accident. If the driver of the Honda was at fault, then she should be held responsible. It is possible that this collision could have occurred because Roberts tried to make an unsafe pass at the time. I trust investigators are looking into who or what may have caused this serious injury collision.
Claim for Compensation
Victims in such cases would be well advised to seek the counsel of a reputed San Francisco personal injury lawyer who will be able to advise injury victims in such cases, about their legal rights and options. A skilled injury lawyer will also be able to determine whether a dangerous or defective roadway condition caused the accident. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining this roadway could be held liable as well. Please remember that any such claim against a California governmental agency must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
