Driver Injured in Orange County Car Accident

A driver was seriously injured in an Orange County car accident after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed on a Los Alamitos roadway. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash happened the morning of March 3, 2010 near the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and Los Alamitos Boulevard. The man was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a light pole near the street intersection. Although fire officials who responded to the crash said the victim did not suffer major injuries, the driver's mother who commented on the newspaper's web site stated that he was taken by ambulance to a trauma center.

My heart goes out to this injured accident victim and his family members. I hope his injuries were not major and that he has a quick and complete recovery.

Car Accidents

There were two fatalities and 72 injuries involving car accidents in Los Alamitos, according to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In 2008, countywide, car accidents claimed 152 lives and injured 13,414 people.

Accident Causes and Liability Issues

It's not quite clear from this news article why the driver lost control of the Ford Ranger. The news article does not say alcohol or drugs were involved or that the driver was speeding at the time. So there is the question of whether this accident was caused by a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in the Ranger. Sometimes a dangerous condition on the roadway could also play a part in such accidents. We do not know if that was a factor here. If I were a member of his family, I'd also want to find out whether there were any other vehicles involved in this accident.

If this accident was caused by a vehicle defect, then the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable. In such cases, it would be critical to preserve the vehicle in its current, crashed condition, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined by an expert for vehicle defects, malfunctions or other evidence. A reputed Orange County personal injury attorney who has successfully handled auto product liability cases will be able to advice injured victims and their families about their legal rights and options.
